Confessions of a Beauty Blogger: Tag

I wouldn’t strictly class myself as a ‘beauty blogger’ but I was tagged in this post by the lovely Sarah and beauty is one of the many things I like to write about.  So I thought why not take this chance to let you guys know a little bit more about me. So let’s jump right in.

1.How many hours a week do you spend planning/writing/uploading posts?
Oh god, I actually dread to think.  I aim to post 3 times a week on Monday, Wednesdays and Fridays (technology and outside world permitting) and I do like to do the occasional quick weekend post.  Editing and taking photos tends to be what takes me longest, so a post that’s very picture heavy but doesn’t have much text will be the ones that take me the longest to complete.  I tend to work on my blog in some way or another at least a couple of hours every night and take photos on the weekend if possible.  I have got a lost faster though.  I’d guess somewhere around the 10-15 hour mark?  Honestly it totally depends on what kind of posts I’m working on and how productive I’m feeling.

2.Are you a spender of a saver?
I used to be self-employed so I am actually pretty good with money.  I used to work pretty much solidly Between October and May but have no work between June-September so I knew I had to keep some money aside.  Now I have a regular 9-5 job with no real commitments I have been able to save regularly,  I put half my wage straight into my savings on pay day, but I will take some back out if I need to.  I’ve definitely been dipping in more and more recently and I need to get out of that habit.  I still treat myself quite a bit but I love a bargain!

3.  When is it easiest for you to write a post?
A couple of hours after work when I’m comfortable, fed and ‘in the zone’.  Honestly it all depends on my mood, I usually get distracted a lot.  I’m the procrastination queen.
4. What makes writing a post comfortable for you?
Pjs on, Netflix in the background, sat on my bed.  Perfection!

5. What’s your worst makeup/ hair habit?
1 1/2 years of blogging and I still don’t wear makeup, do my hair often or have a skincare routine!  Honestly I’m terrible!  I tend to only cleanse my face if I’m in the shower or have a particularly bad skin, I wear makeup about once a fortnight, and 9/10 I just run a brush through my hair before leaving the house.  In short, I’m a slob!  I really should make more of an effort!
6. What’s the one of the quotes you wish you the world would live by?

This is a cheat because it’s not relevant to the world, just me, but it’s something worth remembering.  I wrote more about this here.

7. How long do you spend getting ready every day?

Before I cut my hair short it took forever to brush, now I can do it in about 10-15 mins and that’s all I do before I leave for work.  I am not a morning person as you can probably tell…

8. What’s your favourite post on your blog?
Oh this is actually pretty hard, I’ve never really thought about it before.  I am happy how my blog has improved generally recently (I hope you agree).  My recent Ru Paul Make Up post was something totally new for me and it was really well received (in fact it’s one of my most popular posts) so that made me really happy.  I quite like my high street vintage fashion post too.  I’m not totally happy with any yet, I’m still learning.

9. Who is a beauty blogger you think deserves more subscribers?
I don’t actually follow many strictly beauty bloggers, so if you are one and want more subscribers, comment and I will check you out.

10.  What is one thing you are excited about in the new year?
I am going away with some friends to Disneyland this year, I can’t wait!  I also just passed my driving test so at some point I’ll be getting my first car

11. What’s been your favourite blogging moment?
Probably London Edge the other week.  I was so happy to even be invited my Voodoo Vixen and the day was amazing.  It’s really nice when people actually see the value of bloggers and it boosted my confidence and just being around people there.  It also completely rekindled my love for all things 40s/50s and pin up!

12.  How long does it take to prep a post?
Completely depends on the post, writing an editing an average post probably takes a couple of hours.  Taking and editing photos takes another 2-3.  It’s all dependent on photos and if I have to do any ‘research’ (aka looking for the right clothes online to fit something I’m writing about, that in itself can take a good couple of hours!)

13.  Are you wearing jeans. a dress of Pj bottoms?
Pj Bottoms!  Almost ever post I have written has been done by me in my pjs.

14.  What are you most proud of in your life?
My blog is a large source of pride for me, I’m dyslexic and have no writing experience so watching my blog grow and being able to write, especially regularly, is sort of amazing to me.  I appreciate every view and follower, it’s cheesy but it’s true!  I’m also proud of getting my relationship to where it is, even if we are far apart.
