West End Musicals Silent Disco Walking Tour sounds like quite a mouthful, but the experience is exactly as it says in the tin. It’s all the things you love about a silent disco, but the soundtrack is purely from West End musicals and you experience it as you explore the streets of London going from historic theatre to historic theatre learning some fun facts and anecdotes about them as you go.

The tour is more focused on fun than facts and our guide, Shaun, does a frankly astonishing job of opening up a fairly cynical group of Londoners into singing and dancing in the street without a care in the world! Often to the bemusement of passers-by, his enthusiasm is infectious! The new social distance measures in place include wearing a mask throughout the tour and alongside your headphones, this actually adds to the feeling of anonymity, letting you really let loose and throw some shapes as you sing, (or in my case usually badly screech), along in the streets without feeling self-conscious. It makes me look back to my time in London and how much I’ve changed, there is no way I would have been able to cut loose like this when I first moved here four years ago but now, as I prepared to move back to Yorkshire for a few months, I barely batted an eyelid as I joined in the fun.

Throughout the two and a half-hour walk we visited 20 different theatres across London’s West End and sang and danced along to countless famous West End tunes with everything from Hamelton, to Everyone’s Talking About Jamie to some Abba classics covered. From freestyling our moves as we sashayed through the streets, to choreographed dances in the middle of Trafalgar Square, I honestly can’t remember the last time I laughed this much!
While London theatres remain closed this is a great remedy to get your much-needed theatre fix. The new social distance measures allow everyone to feel safe as they explore the theatrical history of London while having a great time along the way. The tour is a circular walk that is approximately 4km long and tickets for the West End musicals silent disco walking tour are £24 and can be booked through their website.
