Now the Summer buzz is fading and we are preparing to settle into a long, cosy autumn and winter, I need something to motivate myself to get out and enjoy what London has to offer. Thankfully the West End has tons of theatre shows in the last few months of 2023 to keep us busy! Here are just a few of my favourite picks for the best West End Shows 2023 still has for us.
Back to the Future the Musical
This show is total nostalgia for me in all the best ways! This theatrical interpretation of the 1980s cult classic film has most of the millennial audience silently quoting along. The choice to turn this into a musical fuels the fun of this show and the effects with the Delorian in the later stages of the show are staggering and worth the price of a ticket alone! Back to the Future is currently booking until February 2024 at the Adelphi Theatre, tickets start from £23.50.
Dear England
Having caught the initial production of this at The National Theatre I snapped up tickets for this as soon as the West End transfer was announced. I just knew I had to bring friends and family to see this. This biographical play tells the story of England Manager Gareth Southgate’s reformation of the England men’s football team. It’s a great show to get people to if they love football even if the theatre isn’t their usual thing. Dear England is on at the Prince Edward Theatre until the 13th of January, tickets start from £24.
The Lion King
There is a reason The Lion King is such a theatrical classic! One of the longest-running shows in the West End this family favourite shows no sign of going away any time soon. I love how catchy and well-formed the score is. it’s a great nostalgia trip for adults and pure magic for children. The Lion King is currently booking until late February 2024 at the Lyceum Theatre, tickets start from £42
The Choir of Man
Want to see a musical that even people who say they don’t like musicals will enjoy? Then The Choir of Man is the one to book! Set inside a typical British pub the lovable cast sings hit pop songs from across the ages and the energy is infectious! Even for a musical cynic like me you can’t help but be won over by this emotional and joyous choir performance as they harmonise in the on-stage bar. Choir of Man is on at the Arts Theatre until the 18th of February, tickets start from £18.
Frozen the Musical
Just in case one Disney West End hit isn’t enough, Frozen the Musical hit London like an ice bolt to the heart and has remained there ever since. Not just for the young, this show has something for everyone in the family. The special effects are some of the best I’ve seen in theatre. Elsa’s costume change to the ice queen is one of my favourite moments and I’m yet to work out how it is done! Frozen the Musical is on at the Theatre Royal Dury Lane until March 2024, tickets start from £35.
