How to Celebrate Things from a Distance

The last few months have been a bit of a departure from the norm in the UK, to put it mildly. If you’ve had a birthday, or received a promotion, or decided to get married, then you might not have marked the occasion in quite the way that it deserves. With social distancing still playing a major role in the way we all live our lives, it’s difficult to throw a full-on celebration – but that doesn’t mean we can’t do the next best thing. Let’s look at a few ways in which we might celebrate the important things in life from a distance.

Send a gift basket

When you can’t throw a real party, why not consider doing the next best thing by cramming all of the ingredients for a party into a box of gifts. This is ideal if you’re missing friends and family who live on the other side of the country. Your gift basket might include things like birthday cards, confetti, a slice or two of cake, or perhaps even a high-quality chocolate hamper. Just be sure that it isn’t going to be left on a doorstep on a sunny day!

Write a Letter

If you’re thinking of sending a greetings card to mark a special occasion, then why not go one further and pen an entire letter? You don’t need to be able to write elaborately – just go for something sincere and from the heart and you’re sure to make the day of whoever reads your missive. You might bundle it alongside an emotionally significant photograph, or include it inside your gift basket.

Pick up the Phone

Something as simple as a verbal conversation can mean a great deal if you haven’t touched base with those close to you in a while. If you want to brighten someone’s birthday, you might even go a step further by getting a group of friends together for a conference call via something like Zoom or Microsoft Teams.

Watch a Film Together

Sharing an experience with other people is a great way to bond. Whether it’s a sports event, a rocket launch, or a movie, it’s fun to know that you’re doing the same things as the people on the other end of the Zoom call, even if you aren’t actually interacting with them face-to-face.
