As lockdown is gradually eased in the UK, more parts of our lives are starting to return to normal.
With more shops, bars, and restaurants set to return to business, as well as restrictions on our travel starting to be lifted, it almost feels as though life is starting to return to normal.
But what will that ‘normal’ look like? For many of us, Coronavirus has completely turned our lives upside down.
It might have cost you your job or stopped you from working temporarily. It’s meant so many of us have been unable to see friends or family face to face. It might have even taken the life of someone you know.
So, put simply, there will be a new normal, but what will it look like?
Making more time for each other
That time spent apart from your nearest and dearest may well have you pining for a string of reunions when restrictions allow.
We’re social creatures by nature and having missed out on all those hugs might have even had an impact on your health!
Pre-lockdown, were you a sinner in front of the TV kind of person? Maybe spending a bit more time with the ones you love around the dining table might be the order of the day when we’re back up and running again.
Communities stronger than ever
People have come together to celebrate the incredible sacrifices made by key workers during the lockdown, while others have stepped up for their communities, helping vulnerable people with shopping and looking out for them generally.
Recent weeks have seen recovery efforts from Coronavirus coincide with the Black Lives Matter movement taking on greater precedence than ever before – another sign of the strength of communities up and down the country.
Greater respect for the environment
One of the biggest impacts of the global pandemic, perhaps unexpectedly, was the environmental one.
Levels of air pollution hit record lows across the world, with many cities previously blighted by poor air quality brightened, while wildlife was able to return to places previously blocked off the volume of human traffic.
The battle against the climate crisis has been a tricky territory for years, but the lockdown might have helped people come up with novel ways to look out for Mother Nature a bit more once we are regularly back out and about again.
