Stepping foot into the grounds of Quy Mill Hotel & Spa just outside Cambridge you just know you’re in for a treat! The quiet, serene surroundings really set the mood for a bit of me-time, and what better way to treat yourself than with a spot of afternoon tea.
Afternoon tea has long been the go-to choice for friends and family fancying something extra special, and it’s not hard to see why. Thankfully Quy Mill Hotel & Spa has something for every taste with options of a traditional or savoy afternoon tea available and even a sweet tea (a platter of cakes and cookies) if you fancied something a little lighter.

Personally, I have a real sweet tooth so I knew I just had to get the Traditional Afternoon Tea. Each one comes with your choice of tea or coffee. I went with a Chai Tea which is one of my favorites and I have to say it was a great choice, I love the infusion of spices and the contrasting sweetness. It gives off such a cozy vibe.

The first layer of the afternoon tea is, of course, the sandwich platter. Here it consisted of the great classic British selection of beef and mustard (my favorite!), salmon and cream cheese, egg mayonnaise and cheese and pickle, each on a different bread (white & rye, sun-dried tomato, and malted). These finger sandwiches made for the perfect start to the meal, with each one being soft and flavourful.

Next, it was onto the highlight of any afternoon tea, the scones! You can choose from plain or fruit scones (I went for fruit) and as any British person knows the order in which you add your clotted cream and jam is something to go to war over! Personally, I am a ‘cream before jam’ person (the Devon way apparently) and I am prepared to die on this hill! The scone was fresh and moist with the fruit adding just the right amount of juiciness. They had the perfect level of crispiness on the outside while still remaining soft and fluffy inside, totally heavenly!

Finally, it was onto the top layer, the handmade cakes and deserts, and what a selection there was! The chocolate brownie was rich and decadent while in contrast, the lime moose was sharp with a sweet and sour combination which I loved. The lemon pastry was light and just sweet enough while the raspberry macaroon was the perfect combination of crisp and chewy.
Overall the afternoon tea at the Quy Mill Hotel & Spa is filling, delicious, and decadent. Both the sweet and savory afternoon teas cost £22.50 and can be booked directly through their website.
