Sunday Roast Menu at Smith’s Bar and Grill, Paddington Basin

November 10, 2021

Smith’s Bar and Grill sits along the picturesque Paddington Basin near Little Venice in London and serves up delicious traditional British meals in the light, airy, and Insta-worthy dining room and bar.  However, one thing this eatery didn’t offer was a traditional British Sunday roast, that is until now when I was kindly invited over to check out their new offering.

Upon arrival, I chose a cocktail from their extensive list to sip on while I perused the menu.  Pornstar martinis (£12) and Thai Colada’s (£11) were the order of the day, both of which were light, fruity, and far too easy to drink!

The starters offer a great range of British classics and after some consideration, I decided to go with the burrata (£10.50) whereas my dining companion Milly went with the parmigiana (£7.50).

The burrata was fresh and creamy and came on a bed of cherry tomatoes with basil pesto and olive oil, a great start to any meal.  The parmigiana in contrast was a rich combination of mozzarella, grana padano, and tomato sauce which provided the perfect cheese pull.

Smith's Bar and Grill sunday roast

Onto the main event, the Sunday roast itself!  There are five different options of roast to go for; the 28 day matured British grass-fed chateaubriand, the 35 day matured British grass-fed Picanha, free-range whole-roasted poussin, roasted boneless pork loin, or mushroom parcels.  I just had to go for the luxurious chateaubriand (£37) while my guest went for the vegetarian mushroom parcels (£15).  The chateaubriand was rich and melt in your mouth soft, and it came with the delicious accompaniments of honey-roasted carrots, duck fat roasted potatoes, tender stem broccoli, parsnips, Yorkshire puddings (of course!), and of course lashings of gravy!  The mushroom parcels by contrast consisted of roasted chestnuts mushrooms and field mushrooms wrapped in filo pastry served with truffle gravy, roasted potatoes, tender stem broccoli, and maple syrup carrots, a homemade Yorkshire pudding.  This pastry was crisp and the filling delicious and well flavored.

If Sunday roasts aren’t your jam there are a variety of other British classics on the menu ranging from fish and chips to burgers, to daily fish specials, so there is something for everyone even if the roasts are the star of the show.  Check out the Smith’s Bar and Grill website to make a booking.  Let me know what your favorite part of a Sunday roast is?  I’m all about the Yorkshire puddings and gravy!
