It is a really good thing that we used to ride bikes for fun back in our childhood. But as you get older, you’ll understand that riding a bike in your adult life is so much more than just fun. We all might have already heard that riding a bike is really good for your back and legs. And it indeed builds muscles, but there’s more to it.
Why does riding a bike hit differently?
Before we continue with the health benefits of cycling, another reason why it is so good to ride a bike it’s because it’s eco-friendly. You don’t have to fill it up with toxins and then spread it all over the air. The other good thing about it is that you can enjoy things while riding differently. It is not the same experience as when you drive a car, for example. You listen to your surroundings and you enjoy seeing things steadily. You are more.. there. More present.
3 main reasons that might change your mind to ride a bike
Whether it is to boost your workout game, or you’re an environmentalist, riding a bike every day for at least 30 minutes, might be one of the best decisions you will ever make.
- It is really good for your heart, as it will make it beat faster. Decreasing blood pressure and balancing your heart rate. According to the British Heart Foundation, around 10.000 fatal heart attacks could be avoided yearly if people kept themselves fitter. Cycling reduces your risk of heart disease to less than half that of those who don’t exercise.
- You can lose body fat and look fit. Biking will give you a full workout. It is not only your legs that are on the move, it’s also your core, arms, and shoulders.
- It will boost your brain power. If you feel like your brain is moving slow and you probably have difficulty concentrating, get on your bike for at least 10 minutes. When we bike, endorphin is released. The good feeling hormone. The same hormone that releases when we walk, when we dance, and even when we eat.
Bonding moment with your loved ones
A bike is truly nostalgic for us who used to ride one as a kid. It is a really special bonding way with your friends and family. Your family is usually the one who taught you how to ride and then you continued that lesson with your friends. And when you’re an adult, you can continue that tradition with your new friends or your new travel buddies. So, if you’re not doing it for your health, another good reason to do it, it’s just socializing.
Pick the right bike for you
Riding a bike is really good for your mental health, especially for people who suffer from anxiety and depression. It is nerve relaxing, even after you had a long tiring day at your office. It is understandable that you would choose to rest after a long day, but it is so much better for your mental and physical health if you decide to exercise, right after you finish your shift. Some people might think that a bike, after a long working day, it’s an extreme sport due to its pedals.
It is really important the type of bike you choose based on your liking. If you’re into hiking, you might consider a mountain bike. If you’re into travelling, you might consider a touring bike. If you are into jumping and performing tricks, a BMX would not disappoint. If you’re a triathlon enthusiast, you should test out one of these specialized triathlon bikes designed for speed and endurance. And if you love motorcycles but are too afraid to get one, you might consider a chopper bike, which would do just as good. Or you know, just create one yourself.
Whether it is outdoor or indoor, cycling is a perfect way to get healthy and stay in touch with the world around you. It is a mood boost, eco-friendly, great for your health; physical and emotional, and a great way to socialize. Joining a cycling group or club and creating a positive addiction should be on your to-do list. The benefits are almost as endless, so get ready and put your helmet on.
