Transparency at Camden’s Peoples Theatre

Dive into the everyday life of a transgender male through the relatable, hilarious and brutally honest lens of a northern working-class family. Whilst Jack navigates the hurdles of transition, the old family dynamics are shaken up. 

Transparency is a one-person show that reveals the social dynamics of a transmasculine person navigating the early stages of transitioning in a northern working-class family.  

Throughout the story we watch Jack deal with the hurdles of coming out publicly, the headaches of a changing body and evolving relationships.  This northern, working-class story is a side of transitioning not often portrayed in the media so it feels refreshing to see it here. 

Jack is a very likeable character and the audience can’t help but be charmed by him as we witness him deal with various hurdles including his parent’s grief over losing their idea of what they thought his life would be and trying to fit into traditional masculine environments in as a trans male without falling into the traps of toxic masculinity. 

The story is told with humour and remarkably naturalistic dialogue which, as a fellow Yorkshire person, I can confirm is authentic as many of the characters sound just like so many people I knew growing up.  It’s something that can often be hard to capture.  Jaden Adams multi roles here and each character is distinct and feels fully fleshed out and real.
