Discovering Singapore’s Waterfront- From the Marina to the Beaches

December 20, 2023

Singapore attracts many visitors every year for different reasons. Foodies are eager to try the diverse culinary scene found in the various fine dining restaurants, street foods, and hawker centres across the city-state. The Lion City is also known for its vibrant waterfront that captivates locals and visitors alike.

From the iconic Marina Bay area to the serene beaches of Sentosa, there’s a diverse range of attractions and activities you can find along the waterfront. You can go to these places using the country’s efficient public transportation or take an adventure on foot. And if you’re wondering about staying connected during your visit, this won’t be an issue. You can check out the best sim only plans offered by the different cellular providers.

If you want to explore the best of Singapore’s waterfront, consider these places:

Marina Bay Sands

Begin your tour of Singapore’s waterfront at Marina Bay Sands. It’s a distinct triple-tower structure that dominates the city skyline. On top of the architectural marvel is the SkyPark which offers panoramic views of the city. It’s also an iconic hotel and entertainment complex. So if you want to indulge in retail therapy, catch a show, or try your luck at the casino, Marina Bay Sands is a must-visit destination.

Gardens by the Bay

Adjacent to Marina Bay Sands lies Gardens by the Bay, a lush oasis in the heart of the city. It’s a futuristic nature park filled with many wonders. The highlight of the park is the Supertree Grove. These artificial tree-like structures are covered with a variety of plants. At night, these vertical gardens light up for the Garden Rhapsody. It’s a light and sound show as well as a popular evening attraction that astounds both residents and tourists alike.

ArtScience Museum

If you want to add a touch of culture to your waterfront exploration, visit the ArtScience Museum. It boasts a lotus-inspired architecture, which is just as impressive as its exhibits. They often blend art and science in fascinating ways, which further demonstrates Singapore’s commitment to innovation and the arts.

Helix Bridge

As you explore the Marina Bay Sands area, you’ll notice a unique pedestrian bridge. The Helix Bridge is shaped like a DNA helix that spans the Singapore River, connecting Marina Centre with Marina South in the Marina Bay area. Aside from being an engineering feat, the bridge is also a captivating structure, especially when illuminated at night. It also offers panoramic views of Marina Bay Sands and the cityscape.

Waterfront Promenade

Besides the Marina Bay Sands complex and the ArtScience Museum, you’ll find the Waterfront Promenade. It offers a picturesque route along the bay and stunning views of the city skyline and the iconic Singapore Flyer. Lined with public art installations and green spaces, this pathway invites visitors to take a stroll and enjoy the amazing view that it offers. It’s also a popular route among local and visiting runners. Additionally, it’s a great spot for photography enthusiasts to capture the beauty of the surroundings.

Merlion Park

A short walk from Marina Bay Sands leads to Merlion Park, home to the iconic Merlion statue. This mythical creature, with the head of a lion and the body of a fish, is a symbol of Singapore. Capture the perfect snapshot with the cityscape as your backdrop and explore the nearby Esplanade Park, where landscaped gardens and historical monuments await.

Clarke Quay

Heading along the Singapore River, Clarke Quay offers a charming riverside walk. The quaint walkways and historic bridges create a picturesque setting. Take a break and dine at the many restaurants that provide a unique al fresco dining experience with views of the river and city lights. In the evening, watch the riverside become more vibrant and experience Singapore’s exciting nightlife.

Sentosa Island

Apart from the wonderful cityscapes, venture to Sentosa Island for a beachside retreat. Particularly, Palawan Beach is perfect for some family-friendly fun. Take scenic walks along the sandy shores or enjoy various beachside attractions and play areas. You can also head to the Siloso Beach Boardwalk. It’s a beachfront promenade with shops and eateries. Explore the different establishments or indulge in a relaxing stroll along the boardwalk.

While on Sentosa Island, don’t miss Spectra. It’s a mesmerising water and light show that unfolds against the backdrop of Marina Bay Sands. This captivating performance combines dancing fountains, vibrant lights, and music, creating a visual spectacle that reflects the city’s energy and creativity.

East Coast Park

Finally, you can conclude your waterfront journey at East Coast Park. It features serene walkways along the coast and scenic views of the sea and offshore islands. While exploring the park, stop by the seafood restaurants or hawker centres to get a taste of local flavours. There are also recreational areas for those looking for an adventure.

Singapore’s waterfront is a treasure trove of experiences waiting to be discovered. From the modern marvels of Marina Bay to the sandy shores of Sentosa, each stop offers a unique blend of architecture, nature, and entertainment. So, put on your walking shoes, embrace the waterfront experience, and let Singapore’s beauty unfold with every step along the way.
