After my trip to Venice in early March, the curse of 2020 came along and ruined all my travel plans. I had a total of 3 trips cancelled that I had booked and a whole score of others I was researching for later in the year. 2021 is starting to look a little more promising with the vaccine now starting to be rolled out but with Covid numbers currently high it is far from over just yet. However it is hope that keeps us moving forward, and it is this hope for the new year that has left me thinking about all the places I would visit this year if I could. Here are just a few places that are high on my travel wish list (trust me, this list could be 10 times longer easily!):
Spring

Sofia, Bulgaria
Sofia was one of the cancelled trips that I was supposed to be taking on April last year before travel got shut down. This historic city is steeped in history and surrounded by mountains, making it seem almost fairytale-like. I was really looking forward to seeing the gilded architecture and of course trying the Bulgarian cuisine.

Lisbon, Portugal
Lisbon was another place I had booked for Spring 2020. I love how this city is known for its mixture of historic architecture and museums combined with trendy restaurants and art. This colourful city has unsurprisingly remained high on my ‘must visit’ list.
Summer

Budapest, Hungary
Budapest was the last place I had booked for 2020, and although I had this booked for Spring ideally I’d go back in the Summer when the sun out. The food, architecture and historic thermal bathhouses are all big draws to me in this city that I hope I get to finally visit in the near future.
Autumn

Bangkok, Thailand
Ever since my Asian mega trip in 2018, I have been dying to see more of Asia and that’s how Thailand ended up on my list. The mix of old and new in Bangkok is really calling me to go and explore the city. From the vast river, the sprawling temples and to the traditional street food there is tons to see and do here. With the summer being stickily hot and the wet season best being avoided it is late Autumn that seems to be the perfect time to get out of blustery England and explore this remarkable city.

Sicily, Italy
I was looking through some travel guides at work at the start of last year (before my office closed in March, how time flys!) and the imagery of Sicily just took my breath away I spoke to a few of my Italian colleagues who had holidayed here often and it quickly got pushed high up onto my list. This small island is still relitivly untouched and preserved culturally and so I’d love to go explore all it has to offer.

Kyiv, Ukraine
I decided last year after watching the TV show Chernobyl and reading Milly’s excellent posts on touring Chernobyl’s exclusion zone that I would love to visit this fascinating piece of living history. The nearest city where most of the Chernobyl tours begin in the city of Kyiv, and after doing some research I was surprised at just how beautiful and full of cultural heritage the city is! I’d love to do a long weekend exploring the city and doing a Chernobyl tour to boot, oh and the food looks amazing!
Winter

Tibet
Truth be told the reason Tibet entered my wish list is that I was playing a video game set in this amazing place and instantly fell in love. I’ve been doing research on how to visit this hard to reach country ever since. It’s fairly cut off from the outside world and I would definitely want to improve my fitness so I can get up into some of the mountains to really experience as much if this unique place as possible.

Reykjavik, Iceland
I’ve noticed a big uptake in people visiting Reykjavik in recent years, and after seeing all their posts, it’s not hard to see why! For me, I’d love to visit Iceland in November so I can get the best chance possible of seeing the awe-inspiring Northern Lights. Of course, I’d need to stock up on some thermals ready for exploring the rest of the city, including its Viking ancestry, before braving the Blue Lagoon hot springs. I’d definitely be using a Cozycamper to explore the famous ring road at my own pace and really enjoy the scenery!

Nashville, USA
Now that the orange one is out of the white house I am once again looking to explore the USA. Nashville is famous for being ‘music city USA’ and I’ve been told by many people who have visited in the last few years that this is one amazing place. The nightlife is second to none, and with the Winter weather being pretty mild I would love to hit this up at that time of year and listen to live music once again!
So there are just a few places high on my travel wish list in 2021, truth be told I’d happily go almost anywhere at the moment! I am forever looking for new places to explore so let me know what’s on your travel wish list!
