Museum of the Moon at 20-21 Visual Arts Centre

You might have heard on the grapevine, arts venues in the UK are slowly opening back up!  Theatre, museums, and art galleries are opening to the public again from the 17th of May.  I don’t know about you but I can’t wait!  Thankfully I got to taste the excitement slightly early when I was invited to check out the totally Instagram-worthy Museum of the Moon exhibition at 20-21 Visual Arts Centre, Scunthorpe before it opens to the public next week.

As soon as I saw the invite I knew I had to take a visit, I had seen this awe-worthy large moon exhibition all over the web in recent years and needed to see it for myself, this moon has traveled!  The 7-foot high sphere literally appears like it is hovering in mid-air, it’s totally magical to behold, you really do feel like you’ve been given a chance to walk right up to the moon!  The details are wonderous and the accompanying soundtrack by composer Dan Jones really does make you feel like you’ve been taken to another realm.

The artwork by famed artist Luke Jerram has arrived at 20-21 Visual Arts Centre, Scunthorpe just in time for the gallery to celebrate its 20th birthday, and it’s a worthy tribute.  It looks somehow natural and yet totally supernatural hanging in the Victorian church that holds the exhibition.

20-21 Visual Arts Centre is housed in the former St. John’s Church building in Church Square and offers varied and exciting exhibitions of contemporary art, craft and design.  Make sure to check out the other exhibitions currently on display while you are there including Melanie Tomlinson’s Ghost Horses and Guns and Tom Hackett’s Lying low to keep Afloat.  Also, be sure to check out the nearby Tatty Divine exhibition Mishapes at the Scunthorpe Central Libary.

Tickets to the exhibition are free, but booking is recommended as space is limited due to Covid restrictions.  The Museum of the Moon exhibition is on at 20-21 Visual Arts Centre from the 17th of May until the 5th of June.
